Character
Beautiful climbing route in scenic surroundings. The climb has some tricky passages and exposed spots. Great for combining with a hike on the Steinplatte. If you add in the Gamssteig (short climbing route at the foot of the wall), you have a beautiful and exciting circular route.
FURTHER INFORMATION ON DIFFICULTY LEVELS
One section C, the rest mostly C/B and B
NOTE ON ROUTE SAFETY
Very well secured with carabiners and wire cables throughout. In some sections where the carabiners are far apart, you may need to use the natural rock structure as a hand grip or foothold.
ASCENT TO WALL
From St. Johann or Lofer to Waidring. You can either take the cableway, or drive (toll road to Steinplatte).
ASCENT VIA CABLEWAY
You can reach the "Gamssteig" ascent (25 m change in altitude, brings you to the foot of the wall, B/C) from behind the Gasthof Kammerköhr. Don’t follow the signs to the Steinplatte; instead take the unmarked path towards the rock wall on the south side. The path leads to a signpost, and behind it there are tracks to the "Gamssteig", which is an approx. 25m ascent to a shelf, which leads east along the foot of the wall to the start of the "Schuasta Gangl" via ferrata (entrance at pillars, see below).
Access via toll road (8 euro/car): Park in the Steinplatte ski area car park, head towards Stalleralm and continue along the hiking trail towards Wemeteigenalm. At the end of the forest path - after crossing underneath the gondola - turn left uphill and follow the yellow signpost to the foot of the wall, then turn right (not left towards the gondola), and carry on until you reach the marked rock pillar at the start (there is a pine tree between the pillar and the wall).
